The Start of My Continued Weight Loss Journey
I have decided to finally continue to lose weight and thought that if I posted this on here, I will be even more motivated and stay focused! I have been half way to my goal for way too long and it is time to make some changes and get the rest of this weight off!
I am starting out on the Atkins diet and see how that goes. After such a long time of being halfway to my goal, I am ready to do something about it and make the changes needed to get there! I am disgusted with myself and not happy with my appearance at all. I think that I have hit my lowest point and something has just got to give!
I am around 5′7″ and my highest weight was 320 and I currently weigh 238 and my goal weight right now is 150. I had Vertical Banded Gastroplasty in 2000 and it helped me to lose some weight but I have not been able to lose any more. I did get down to 217 at one point, but then recently gained back up to where I am right now. Shortly after I had the Weight Loss Surgery I became pregnant and I believe that I stretched out my stomach prematurely since I had to eat more for the babies sake. Unfortunately I wound up having a miscarriage but then became pregnant again in 2002 and had William in 2003.
VBG is not the same as the Lap Band, unfortunately they did not have that procedure at the time that I had the surgery that I did. If I had jus waited about a year longer, I could have had that done and most likely would have had better results. I was too afraid to have the Gastric Bypass since I had heard of so many complications that can come from having that surgery. I want so badly to weigh under 200 finally!
My stomach is stapled and there is a small ring (band) at the top of my stomach which makes eating meats like steak very hard. The meat tends to get stuck easily if I don’t chew very well and that is extremely painful at times. So, that is why I am going to try Atkins but if I am unable to eat all of the meat, then I will try another plan. I have stretched out my stomach since the surgery I am sure but I still don’t eat a lot at one time. My main problem is what I eat, I love Cokes and Dr. Peppers and breads and sweets and all kinds of carbs.
I have two sons, one is 19 and the other is 5. I do have a big age gap between them and I just want to be able to be around to meet my grandchildren someday and at the rate that I am going, it is very unlikely…especially for my 5 year old. My youngest son is about to start school and I don’t want him to be teased about having a “fat” mother either, poor kid.
So I am starting this tomorrow, July 28, 2008 and I will update with new videos as I begin to lose weight and keep everyone updated.
Thank you!

Gastric Sleeve Weight Loss Surgery – Dr. John Alexander – Dallas, Texas
Sleeve gastrectomy, also known as gastric sleeve surgery, is a remarkable new procedure that boasts several specific advantages over other types of laparoscopic weight loss surgery. Unlike LAP-BAND® surgery, a sleeve gastrectomy does not involve the implantation of a foreign object in the body, and it does not need adjustment or filling after surgery.
Because Dr. Alexander does not disconnect and reconfigure the intestines when performing sleeve gastrectomy for Dallas-area patients, the procedure is simpler than other laparoscopic weight loss surgery options, with lower risks and fewer side effects. Patients who are too overweight to safely undergo a gastric bypass procedure can often undergo gastric sleeve surgery first, and later have a complete gastric bypass after losing some weight.
In order to make this procedure more accessible to those in need, the Alexander Center for Obesity Surgery now offers a special discounted cash price to patients interested in sleeve gastrectomy. To learn more about gastric sleeve surgery or about this unique opportunity, please contact the practice. Call 972-247-7767, or visit drjohnalexander.com today!

I need weight loss surgery, How much out of pocket money will I need?
I have an employee group PPO (Humana) I live in Florida is there any financial help available.
While there are many different types of weight loss surgery, the cost averages about $25,000. Depending on a combination of factors, costs have been stated as ranging from $10,000 to $40,000. While cost can vary between procedures, cost also varies for the same procedure from person to person based on their individual circumstances. The complexity of the surgery, the amount and type of follow-up care can differ between patients, as well as cost differences between geographical locations and from doctor to doctor.
When comparing costs, it is necessary to account for all factors that contribute to the overall cost of weight loss surgery. Some weight loss surgery providers will quote one all encompassing cost, while other providers will quote surgery cost only, and not take into account pre-op tests, hospital charges, follow-up care, counseling appointments, but prefer to bill items separately.
Hope this helps.
